Exterior Painting
September 18, 2024Before i Start, here is the disclaimer; I’m taking these photos sometimes before I even get the job so apologies if they may be bad quality.
Now lets jump in.
There are a few type of doors that i want to get over them in this article.
Here are the types if you don’t wanna ready through.
- Flush Doors , the most common
- Panel Doors
- Pocket Doors
- Double Doors
- Bifold/Trifold Etc
- Sliding Doors
- Barn Doors
- Glass Doors
- French Doors
Flush Doors
Flush Doors are your normal doors. They are usually 82cmx204cm and 3.5cm thick.
They are the easiest to paint to be honest. and the most efficient ones.
Here’s some photos.
Panel Doors
Panel Doors, well, as the name suggests they have panels in them. There are a different type of them but they all kinda have this theme of having a panel inside of a flat door.
Usually, They have a wood grain kind of a texture and you shouldn’t really sand them because you don’t want to get rid of the texture.
Although, i like to get a foam sand or abrasive pad and sand them before applying the primer.
Here’s a photo/
Pocket Doors
These Type of Doors are usually for entry to TV Room, Wardrobe or Shower/Toilet.
the type of door you always have problem locking them and a tiny movement is gonna mess with the alignment.
the way the work is, there is a pocket in the wall and a railing on the top frame and the door slides in and out of the pocket in the wall .
Here’s a photo of a pocket door before installation, you can see the dimension on the door. and the peace that attaches to the door and sits on the railing
Usually we get access to these door before they chippies put on the jamb so we can seal the top and bottom of the door. specially in toilets.
Double Doors
2 flush doors.
They are something similar to the photo below. 2 flush doors but they are a bit bigger.
very stylish and provide a big entry.
Bifold/Trifold Etc
This is a type of door that folds in itself, and they come in many shape, form and size.
this one is a glass door and has 5 doors so i guess a Penta-fold.
obviously bi in bifold means 2.
Sliding Doors
They slide, usually on wardrobe.
Barn Doors
I couldn’t find a photo in my archive. but they are what they sound like they are.
Pocket doors but exposed.
You make a cavity in the wall with no frame. then on one side of the wall you hang the railing and the door.
unfortunately i couldn’t find any photo. It should be easy to get some photos on the google.
Glass Doors
Doors with Glass in them, they have different types and the worst one to paint is the french door.
French Doors
According to Dictionary.com
”
noun
-
a door having glass panes throughout or nearly throughout its length.“
They are the worst to paint. sometimes though, when they are freshly pottied the oil base primer needs to go over the windows to seal the weather out.
Bonus : my art work
These are type of doors according to me. but there are other types too. these are the most common ones I painted during the years.
